BIOGRAPHY

Born: October 7, 1948 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

After five years of studies at the Addis Abeba Art University, and several exhibitions in Addis Ababa I came to Europe in 1971 to be at the Mecca, the birth place of modern art. Looking back as a young Ethiopian artist fresh from the Art Academy, filled with idealistic ideas, trying to find the roots of the old European masters like Picasso, Kandinsky, Matisse, Van Gogh, hitch hiking from Zurich to Frankfurt, from Paris to Amsterdam with little money, drinking in the same coffee house where Picasso and Skunder met their friends and colleagues, to see the galleries, the museums and the narrow streets, this experience of the 70's was the ultimate memory and the same time the beginning of my artistic life in Europe.
Since then I went for Research studies to U.S.A for a year sponsored by the community of Zollikon and worked among others with Jeff Donaldson (Dean of Howard University) & Skunder Boghossian. I have made exhibitions in major European cities & in the USA. The exhibition in Zurich was opened by the Major of Zurich, Dr. Thomas Wagner, in Paris by Jack Lang, then Cultural Minister of France, in London opened by Cherie Booth Blair, the British Prime Minister's wife and Catherine Lambert, one of the world famous curators, and my biography was written by Dr. A. Orlando, Art Consultant in Zurich. 2009  I was honoured from an Italian Museum with an Award For Artistic Merits.
I have been to London, New York, Paris, Addis Abeba, Zürich, Geneva, Florence, Siena, Chianciano, Aix-En-Provence, Cannes, St.Tropez, Arles, Monaco. St.Ives, Cornwall, Penzance, Plymouth, Brighton. I have travelled these places intensively for exhibitions and contacts. For the last 40 years this has been, and still is, the continuation of my artistic life in Europe.  And Europe has become my second home.
